Get some uniquely Denver scares this Halloween at Molly Brown House and 13th Floor Haunted House

Molly Brown House

Located at 1340 Pennsylvania St. in Denver, the Molly Brown House is arguably one of the most recognized homes in the city.

Once the home of Denver socialites J.J. and Molly Brown, the gorgeous 1887 Queen Anne had previously served as the governor’s mansion before being purchased by the philanthropist (and Titanic survivor) and her husband.

After her death in 1932, Brown’s beloved home was sold and left in poor condition until the early 1970s, when the group Historic Denver, Inc. purchased the home and restored it to its original glory.

Today, the historic home is known as the Molly Brown House Museum and features original furnishings and architecture, and memorabilia.

With all of that being said, you may be wondering what gives the iconic home a reputation for being haunted. According to tour guides, museum workers, and tourists alike, the home will inexplicably smell like J.J.’s pipe smoke at random times, have light bulbs mysteriously undone, and even have furniture rearranged by what appears to be a spirit wearing a Victorian dress.

As if that wasn’t frightening enough, claims have also been made that the ghosts of Molly, J.J., family members, and past guests can be seen wandering the halls of the home, while others have felt cold spots in strange locations.

13th Floor Haunted House

When you ask people about the best haunts in the area, 13th Floor Haunted House always comes up — and it definitely lives up to the hype.

Amazing set designs, realistic props and monstrous animatronics are just some of the features that make 13th Floor such a talked-about attraction every fall, and this is the haunt’s seventeenth year in Denver. The adventure begins the moment you step foot on the midway, where you can buy snacks, play carnival games and interact with monsters lurking all over the lot. Adding to the festive environment this year is the ShriekEasy, a beautifully decorated bar.

Heads up, though: There’s plenty of parking on the streets and in the field nearby, so don’t be fooled into paying for premium spots closer to the door…unless, of course, you think you’ll need to make a quick escape. And no matter how you get to this attraction, you won’t find much signage for the entrance.
